What is Paw Patrol?

The last time I walked through my local toy store I noticed a toy called Paw Patrol that I'd never seen before. It caught my eye so I asked my girls if they knew what it was, but they didn't. My guess at the time was that the toys were aimed at children younger than my girls, which would explain their ignorance.

Curiosity got the better of me, so when I got home I did a little research. What I found is that the Paw Patrol toys are based on a children's TV series that airs on Nick Jr.. It is about a really smart boy named Ryder who leads six rescue dogs on a variety of adventures.

According to Ryder, no job is too small for the Paw Patrol (get it? The dogs travel on their paws, making them paw patrollers...). They've done everything from rescuing a helpless kitten to saving a train from a rockslide.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the dogs and Ryder use special skills they have, various gadgets, and a variety of vehicles as they go on their patrols to keep the fictional town of Adventure Bay safe. It looks really cute, as you can see from the video below about the pups saving a merpup, and I can see why young kids want Paw Patrol toys.
